Our comprehensive Health and Physical Education program involves the following:
- In 2009 we have implemented the “Tribes” Program which aims to develop a community of learners based on the agreements of mutual respect, attentive listening, right to participate, no put downs and personal best.
- The Physical Education program is designed to give students the fundamental motor skills that are required to become successful in a wide variety of sports. Throughout all year levels students are provided a safe environment to build confidence in performing in individual and team sports.
- All year levels will be given the lifelong tools to lead a healthy lifestyle. These tools include fitness education, healthy eating habits and healthy lifestyle recommendations.
- All year levels participate in a swimming program which includes water safety at Nunawading Aqualink. This program allows students to build a strong foundation of swimming skills.
- A seven week gymnastic program in Terms 1 and 2 is provided by a qualified coach – Duncan Myers. This includes a wide range of activities that will build students body awareness, flexibility, strength and co-ordination.
- All students are given the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports, due to the excellent range of sporting equipment available to the school.
- Levels 3 and 4 students participate in a sport program which includes inter-school sport at Level 4 and intra-school sport at Level 3.
- Students in Year 4 to 6 have the opportunity to participate in the District Sporting Carnivals of swimming, athletics and cross country.
- Our Outdoor Education Program offers camp at Level 3 and 4. In 2009 Level 3 students are attending the Catherine Creek camp and Level 4 students are attending Coonawarra Farm Resort near Bairnsdale. Level 2 students participate in an evening excursion or a stay late visit at school. In 2008 the Level 2 students visited Melbourne Zoo and then returned to school for a pizza night.
- Topics explored in the Health Program include, “traffic safety”, "sun-smart" and "healthy eating".
- Each class spends 1 hour per week with one of our PE specialists.
- Each year we run a House Sports competition and participate in other whole school events like Coach Approach, where elite athletes and coaches run sessions with students in a range of sports.
- As a school we celebrate sporting events such as The Olympic and Commonwealth Games by hold our own mini events where students represent one of the competing countries.
- The Health and PE program is also supported by various incursions and clinics throughout the year.
