Mathematics at Mount Waverley North Primary School is both fascinating and fun.

Using the Early Years Numeracy (Preps to year 4) and the Middle Years Numeracy (year 5 to year 9) model, students engage in activities and problem solving in the strands of Space, Number, Measurement, Chance and data and reasoning and strategies the students develop a deep understanding of the how and why of mathematics to carry through into a life long practice of being a numerate individual. Our rationale to the students: 

• Can take joint responsibility for their mathematical learning.

• Can be vitally interested in and want to learn mathematics.

• Can learn mathematics from other sources other than just the teachers.

Can strengthen their understanding of mathematics through engaging in deep and meaningful ‘maths’ conversations.
