Buddy Program

The Mount Waverley North Primary School Buddy Program supports our friendly and caring student body, where strong cross-aged peer relationships are built and maintained.

All Prep students are allocated a Year 5 Buddy to support them with their transition to Primary school, and meet regularly with their Buddy through our ongoing Buddy Program sessions. These Prep-Year 5 buddies continue for a second year, with the same students remaining buddies as they move into Year 1-Year 6. This ensures a strong friendship is built and younger students continue to feel supported by their elder peers while at school.

Our Year 5 and 6 students are involved in a ‘Buddy Preparation Program’ which helps students understand how to be an effective Buddy. The role of the Senior Buddy is to build a positive relationships with the younger student, to be a positive role model for the student to look up to, and to share a joy of learning and being a student at MWNPS.

Buddy Program activities focus on our School Values of Respect, Integrity, Excellence and Global Citizenship. They help students develop positive social skills and understand and use these values in safe, supportive social settings.
